Biography

Born and raised in Toronto, Julia Kerrigan is a photographer working in both digital and 35mm film. After relocating to Vancouver, they completed a 4-year program at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, earning a BFA in Photography. Their practice engages staged and documentary modes of image making that explore narratives through constructed scenes as well as travel-based works that respond to places and live experiences. Drawing connections to Julia Kerrigan’s Screened Smiles, which stages moments of smartphone use to interrogate the tension between private connection and public exposure. Julia Kerrigan’s work similarly investigates authenticity, performance, and identity within contemporary culture.
